  • Ted Hemenway

    DVM

Dr. Hemenway received his Bachelors of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1977. He then established Saginaw Animal Hospital in 1981 and became the medical director of VCA Saginaw Animal Hospital in 2005. When asked What do you like most about veterinary medicine? without hesitation he says It's watching someones beloved pet take that first bite of food after being on death's doorstep. He continues The challenges of medicine and surgery are what drive most veterinarians, myself included, but when you watch a pet leap into the arms of an owner that thought they would never see them again..now that's just wonderful! Dr. Hemenway enjoys almost all aspects of veterinary medicine however he says I leave the anal glands to the techs. I wouldn't want to take their jobs away from them. In the last ten years he has developed a special interest in dentistry. On the personal side, Dr. Hemenway and his wife Becky have been married 33 years. She will tell you with a smile on her face At least 3 of those were pretty good! They have 2 terrific sons and a 3 year old grandson that is the best ever. And of course there are the pets. Three dogs and a cat whose names are Annie, Bob, Sophie and Dart. Annie came from the Parker County animal shelter. Bob was hit by a car and left on the side of the road when a good samaritan brought him to the clinic for euthanasia. He was starved, had a broken leg, broken teeth, paralyzed tail, etc. There was just something about that dog. I couldn't put him to sleep so I fixed his leg, removed some teeth, his tail and his testicles and took him home. Bob is a goof-ball deluxe! Sophie came from the Saginaw Animal Control and Dart came from the middle of the road after dodging a few dozen cars. In his spare time, Dr. Hemenway is an avid woodworker making everything from bowls to beds.
